Dental implants are a solution to restore your missing teeth, providing natural looking, long lasting results. There are other treatments available to restore missing teeth but dental implants are the most durable and comfortable solution.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are manufactured as a replacement for the root of a natural tooth. An implant is usually made from medical-grade titanium alloy and is placed in the jaw during a short surgical procedure. Don’t worry, we will make sure you feel completely comfortable during this treatment. Treatment is completed by placing a crown onto the implant post, to restore the space left by the missing tooth.

How is an Implant Placed?

For best results, our dentist will order a series of x-rays to assess the jaw bone to determine the most desirable implant site.
After careful planning the implant is surgically placed in the jaw and is left for a period of 3 to 6 months to integrate or fuse to the jawbone. During this time, a temporary prosthesis is provided so you can still smile, eat and talk comfortably.
After 3-6 months, our dentist will check the implant is stable or integrated. Once the implant has integrated with the jawbone a permanent crown is fabricated and placed on to the implant.

How is an Implant Better?

Implants provide the most life-like and natural looking tooth replacement

They are fixed in the mouth which means they do not move when you eat or chew

Implants are more conservative as it is the only treatment available that does not require support from other teeth. Another replacement option for missing teeth is a bridge—where teeth on either side of the space are prepared or shaped to support the missing teeth.  Since implants do not rely on adjacent teeth for support there is no need to prepare the adjacent teeth and more tooth structure can be saved.

Implants require no special after-care other than the maintenance of good normal oral hygiene

Surgical Warning
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should obtain opinions and advice by an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Results and procedures required will vary from individual to individual.

Am I a Suitable Candidate?

For dental implants to be successful it is important to have all dental diseases treated, such as gum disease and dental caries (decay), as these conditions will compromise the success of the implant.

There are medical conditions and medications that may affect the healing process so it is vital your medical history is thoroughly reviewed with your medical GP and dentist prior to implant placement.

Is Maintenance Required?

Just like teeth, it is very important to look after your dental implants. A good daily oral hygiene routine combined with professional care twice yearly will help ensure your implant and your natural teeth remain healthy.
